 Description.

The PCQB 01 course is an entry-level program into Project Gecko’s ITCQB system. It was oriented around the use of the handgun in confined space. Although primarily, much like the ITCQB 01 course, the PCQB sets its focus on hybrid, multipurpose application of Limited Penetration room clearing techniques, this course is expressly set to focus on the high threat, resistance-based CQB. Topics of the course range from the anatomy of structures, weapon flow, solo room clearing, and two men tactics. For more information about the course content, please click on the virtual course guide above.

The ITCQB methodology of Project Gecko is based on our field experience in the Israeli military, influenced by science and driven by a constantly changing reality of threats. With that being said,  Project Gecko is committed to teach and develop our CQB system to the highest standards while working along with science-based principles and empirical evidence. So why a specific course for handguns?

While the PCQB course is similar to the ITCQB 01, it focuses solely on the use of handguns. You probably wondering why. There are two reasons. The first and obvious – standard issue. Some individuals will use ONLY a handgun in their line of work. The second reason is a more throughout one. Because handling handguns in close quarters can be very beneficial, but also of different difficulty. Generally speaking, handguns are compact and over different control and retention compared to an SMG or rifle. For example, since the handgun is shorter, individuals are getting closer to their opponents in confined spaces such as rooms. Other examples are shooting thresholds/edges of covers due to height over bore during the application of the ‘Slice’ technique. There are other behavioral effects that are amplified due to the use of a handgun.

Additionally, ballistics and other more mechanical considerations may influence the tactical application of the handgun.

This, along with our own research experience, coupled with students' feedback in recent years lead to the development of PCQB 01. Running this program for three years now, only confirmed our observations, that while tactics should be the same, the way of how the handgun is applied, should be trained separately.
