The course
The Pistol ITCQB course is an entry-level program into Project Gecko’s ITCQB system. It is oriented around the use of handguns in confined spaces. Although primarily, much like the ITCQB 01 course, the P-ITCQB sets its focus on hybrid, multipurpose application of Limited Penetration room clearing techniques, this course is expressly set to focus on the high threat, resistance-based CQB. Topics of the course range from the anatomy of structures, weapon flow, solo room clearing, and two-man tactics. THE SYSTEM
Project Gecko's ITCQB System is already in use in various departments, agencies, and other organizations. The System's main focus is human behavior-based concepts and delivers tactics that focus on human response rather than make-believe paper target concepts. On the practical side, the ITCQB system is a hybrid, multipurpose application of Limited Penetration. It provides multiple speeds and does not rely heavily on team size or other operational constraints such as surprise or superiority. Simply put, our tactical concepts offer simultaneous offensive and defensive advantages.
The ITCQB methodology of Project Gecko is based on our field experience in the Israeli military, which is influenced by science and driven by a constantly changing reality of threats. Project Gecko is committed to teaching and developing our CQB system to the highest standards while working with science-based principles and empirical evidence. Learn more about our methodology here
THE PURPOSE of a handgun course
While the PCQB course is similar to the ITCQB 01, it focuses solely on the use of handguns. You probably wondered why.
There are two reasons. The first and obvious – standard issue. Some individuals will use ONLY a handgun in their line of work. The second reason is a more throughout one. Handling handguns in close quarters can be very beneficial, but also of different difficulty. Generally speaking, handguns are compact and over different control and retention compared to an SMG or rifle. For example, since the handgun is shorter, individuals are getting closer to their opponents in confined spaces such as rooms. Other examples are shooting thresholds/edges of covers due to height over bore during the application of the ‘Slice’ technique. Other behavioral effects are amplified due to the use of a handgun.
Additionally, ballistics and other mechanical considerations may influence the tactical application of the handgun.
This, along with our own research experience, coupled with students' feedback in recent years, led to the development of PCQB 01. Running this program for three years now only confirmed our observations that while tactics should be the same, the way of how the handgun is applied should be trained separately.
General overview of the course topics:
